Tour highlights: The part of the world, which is called the Danakil Depression, is one of the remotest, lowest and unique land formations of the world in the Great Rift Valley system. Still it is part of the earth which is unstable and pulling each other to the opposite side. In this adventure you will explore Erta Alle, absolutely unique Lava Lake erupting 24 hours and Dalol, the lowest part of Danakil Depression (116 below sea level) extremely hottest and inhospitable place but enjoyable and extraordinary colorful

Ert_ale_Lava_lakelandscape. It is famous for its fascinating fumaroles amazing rock formations, crystal and mineral deposits. The final part of your adventure takes you to Lake Asale, famous salt mining lake and visits to  salt workers when cutting, shaping and loading. Besides, salt merchants along with their endless Camel Caravans will be visited.

Day to day program


Day 1:   Addis – Mekele– Hammed Ela

Morning flight will take you to Mekele. Up on arrival you will take time to have coffee snack and continue you journey to a village called Hammed Ela which is 180 km from Mekele.

Day 2: Hammed Ela –Dallole(Danakil Depression) – Hammed Ela

A full day will be dedicated to explore the fascinating volcano of DALLOL Denakel  Dipression - a volcanocaldera-ertale-volcano_97_600x450 hidden under kilometer-thick deposit of salt. The volcano marks its presence by the up doming of the salt and hundreds of fumaroles and hot springs in all colors.

Day 3: Hammed Ela – Erta Ale

After breakfast you will drive about 120 kim till a you reach a small village called kursawad from here you will pick up Afar policemen and an Afar guide, then drive though the flat salt and lava desert to the Afar village of Dodom and set camp at the base of Erta Ale volcano. Once you reach their take a break to have something to eat for dinner. That same night when the night falls the afar guide will join us along the way while the camel caravan carries your luggage and the equipment. You will have 3 hours trekking till you reach the floor of caldera.

Day 4: Erta Ale – Hammed Ela - Afdera

In the morning you will walk back to you camp sites, where you car has been parked. Break down the camp and pack up your luggage it to the vehicle and continue driving 120 km to a place called Afdera, salt covered area.Hot_spring_on_the_salt_lake

Day 5: Afdera – Logiya – semera

The trip leads through rugged moon-landscapes, characterized by volcanic rifts and faults, young black lava flows and gravel desert. You will drive up to 205 km.

Day 6: Semera - Awash

Awash River is constitutes the southern boundary of the park to observe Awash Falls. On this day you continue to drive through the Rift Valley. The landscape changes from half-desert to savannah and steppe, interrupted by oases from the Awash River.

Day 7: Awash - Langano

Your journey continues driving to Langano. On the way you will enjoy the nature and landscape of the rift valley.

Day 8: Wendogenet – Addis Ababa

AM- swimming & relaxing  in the natural hot springs of adjacent mountain streams- Wendo Genet, a mountainous forest paradise - the summer residence  of the late emperor’s family 

In the afternoon drive back to Addis Ababa. On the way, enjoying the Rift valley Lakes. Up on arrival in Addis you will check in to you Hotel and take some time off relaxing.

Day 9: Addis Ababa city tour

  •  National Museum that exhibits numerous antiquates, historical relics, archaeological and pale-ontological objects including the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy.
  •  St. George Cathedral that contains several interesting modern paintings, mosaics and collection of ecclesiastical paraphernalia.
  •  Mercato, the biggest open market in Africa that presents a fascinating medley of people and culture.
  • Trinity Cathedral - the biggest Orthodox church in the country decorated by modern and medieval Ethiopian style ecclesiastical paintings and episodes of Ethiopia’s history.
  • Ethnological Museum housed on the former palace of Haile Selassie offers an overview of Ethiopian crafts, culture and art. 
  • And the day tour ends with the visit of the commanding view point Mount Entoto which offers the stupendous view of the city. Within Entoto's old Imperial Compound, you will visit the churches of Mariam and the Archangel Raguel.



After check in and relaxing in your hotel we will head to one of the renowned Traditional Restaurant for an Ethiopian traditional farewell Night. This is Viva Ethiopia’s complimentary farewell dinner party, traditional buffet with local drinks. There will also be cultural dance show of the different ethnic group. We believe this is the best way to wind up the trip.
